Marathi vs Hindi: काल/उद्या & Three Genders
Two Marathi–Hindi differences from real data: काल vs उद्या split, and neuter हा/ही/हे Hindi lacks.
1. काल means only yesterday
Hindi कल covers both yesterday and tomorrow. Marathi splits them — and both halves are in the curriculum:
| Marathi | Pronunciation | Hindi | English | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| काल | kālkaal | कल | yesterday | काल पाऊस पडला. It rained yesterday. |
| उद्या | udyāudyaa | कल | tomorrow | उद्या सुट्टी आहे. Tomorrow is a holiday. |
2. Three genders, not two
Hindi has masculine and feminine. Marathi adds neuter — visible right in the demonstratives:
| Marathi | Pronunciation | Hindi | English | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| हा | hāhaa | यह | this (masculine) | हा मुलगा हुशार आहे. This boy is smart. |
| ही | hīhee | यह | this (feminine) | ही मुलगी गाते. This girl sings. |
| हे | hehe | यह | this (neuter) | हे पुस्तक वाच. Read this book. |
