Vowels (स्वर)

अ, आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ए, ऐ, ओ, औ, अं, अः ही मराठीची 12 स्वरे आहेत.

Marathi has 12 vowels: a, ā, i, ī, u, ū, e, ai, o, au, plus the nasal aṃ and the breathy aḥ. Vowel length changes meaning, so hold long vowels fully.

Note: हिंदीप्रमाणेच पण वेगळे उच्चार.

Consonants (व्यंजन)

क ते ह ही 33 व्यंजने आहेत. ळ हा मराठीचा अद्वितीय व्यंजन आहे.

Marathi has 33 consonants, from ka to ha. ḷa is the retroflex L unique to Marathi among Indian languages - practice curling the tongue tip back.

Note: ळ हिंदीत नाही, उच्चारावर लक्ष द्या.

How barakhadi works (pattern)

Barakhadi attaches each vowel to a consonant. The क row shows the pattern every consonant follows:
