Grammar notes

असणे - Positive

मी आहे, तू आहेस, तो/ती आहे, आम्ही/आपण आहोत, तुम्ही आहात, ते आहेत.

The verb to be (āhe) agrees with the subject: mī āhe, tū āhes, to/tī āhe, āmhi/āpaṇ āhot, tumhī āhāt, te āhet.

असणे - Negative

मी नाही, तू नाहीस, तो/ती नाही, आम्ही/आपण नाहोत, तुम्ही नाहात, ते नाहीत.

Negation of to be: nāhī replaces āhe and also agrees - mī nāhī, tū nāhīs, to/tī nāhī, āmhi nāhot, tumhī nāhāt, te nāhīt.

Possession

माझं (my), तुझं (your), त्याचं (his/her). लिंगानुसार: माझा/माझी/माझे.

Possessives: mājhē (my), tujhē (your), tyāchē (his/her). They agree with the thing owned - mājhā dādā, mājhī āī, mājhē grām.

Question Words

काय = what, कुठे = where, कधी = when, कसे = how, कोण = who.

Question words: kāy (what), kuthe (where), kadhi (when), kase (how), koṇ (who). They usually stand right before the verb.

Imperatives

तू रूप - क्रियापद मूळ (जा, खा). तुम्ही रूप - या/आ (जाया).

Informal (tū) commands use the bare verb root: jā (go), khā (eat). Polite (tumhī) commands add -ā: jā-ā, khā-ā.

Polite Requests

कृपया मदत करा. मला पाणी पाहिजे. नकार: मला नको.

Polite requests: kṛpayā madat karā (please help), malā pāṇī pāhije (I would like water). To decline politely: malā nako (I do not need it).
