Hindi → Marathi: Emotions & Feelings
Emotions and inner states mapped Hindi to Marathi — आनंद, राग, भीती, काळजी, भूक, तहान — with the मला…आहे pattern from Unit 17.
What you will learn
Emotions and inner states from Unit 17 mapped Hindi to Marathi — आनंद (happiness), राग (anger), भीती (fear), काळजी (worry), लाज (shame), गौरव (pride), and the body-states भूक (hunger), तहान (thirst), झोप (sleepiness). Each row shows the Hindi, the Marathi, and the मला…आहे pattern note.
The grammar key: feelings and body-states arrive TO you in Marathi — मला आनंद आहे (I have happiness → I am happy), मला भूक लागली आहे (hunger has hit me). Hindi मुझे … है works the same way; the words shift.
Tip: Learn in opposite pairs: आनंद/दुःख, भीती/धैर्य, काळजी/निश्चिंती, भूक/तृप्ती — pairs stick better than lists.

The मला…आहे pattern
Feelings are things that happen TO you: मला राग आला (anger came to me), मला भीती वाटते (fear feels to me), मला भूक लागली आहे (hunger has struck me). The Hindi मुझे … है maps directly — just swap the vocabulary.
The राग trap
Hindi राग = musical mode. Marathi राग = anger. Same spelling, opposite vibe. This is the highest-frequency false friend on this page — flag it mentally.
Common mistakes
✗ Using राग for music✓ राग = anger in Marathi
Hindi राग (melody) ≠ Marathi राग (anger). The word is identical; the meaning is not.
✗ मी आनंद आहे for “I am happy”✓ मला आनंद आहे
Happiness arrives TO you: मला (to me) + आनंद (happiness) + आहे (is).
✗ दुख for दुःख✓ दुःख with visarga
Standard Marathi keeps the ः; writing दुख is the Hindi spelling habit.
