English → Marathi: Introductions & Meeting People
English to Marathi introduction sentences — say your name, where you are from, what you do and ask about others — from Units 01 and 05.
What you will learn
Eight Marathi sentences for introducing yourself and learning about others: giving your name, stating your city, saying what you do, asking names and origins. All from Units 01 and 05 of the Bol Marathi course.
The pattern is simple: name first, then the closing आहे. The verb-final order from English→Marathi greetings carries over -- just slot your details in.
Tip: Pair माझं नाव ... आहे with तुम्ही कुठे राहता? (Where do you live?) -- the two sentences that start every Marathi conversation.
English → Marathi, sentence by sentence
The two-sentence starter kit
1) माझं नाव ... आहे (My name is ...) 2) मी ... ला/मध्ये राहतो (I live in ... -- use ला for cities, मध्ये for areas). With these two, you have covered the first minute of any Marathi introduction.
Asking back -- the polite return
तुमचं नाव काय? (What is your name?) and तुम्ही कुठे राहता? (Where do you live?) use the same words you just learned -- flip the pronoun and you have a full exchange.
Common mistakes
✗ Saying मी आहे ... for "I am ..."✓ माझं नाव ... आहे
Introduction sentences use the possessive + noun + आहे pattern, not the pronoun + आहे.
✗ Using ला for every location✓ पुणेला (city), महाराष्ट्रात (state), गावात (village) -- ला for cities, मध्ये/त for others
Marathi case markers shift by place type; the curriculum drills ला with cities in Unit 05.
✗ Forgetting the closing आहे✓ मी पुणेला राहतो आहे -- verb + आहे always
Continuous and simple present both end in आहे in Marathi course sentences.
Quick practice
Answer first, then open the reveal to check yourself.
1. "I live in Pune" in Marathi?
Answer: A. मी पुणेला राहतो — मी (I) + पुणेला (to Pune) + राहतो (live) -- verb last.
2. How do you ask "What is your name?"
Answer: A. तुमचं नाव काय? — तुमचं नाव काय? -- formal/respectful; तुझं is intimate only.
3. Translate to Marathi: “I am Rahul. I live in Mumbai.”
माझं नाव राहुल आहे. मी मुंबईला राहतो. — Unit 01 + Unit 05 -- two sentences, one exchange.

Common questions
How do you say "Where are you from?" in Marathi?
तुम्ही कुठून आलात? -- literally "From where have you come?" (Unit 05 speaking).
Can I use नमस्ते in Marathi introductions?
Use नमस्कार -- it is the standard Marathi greeting. नमस्ते marks you as a Hindi speaker immediately.
